Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic Therapy helps you make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface — the patterns, feelings, and relationship dynamics that can quietly shape your day-to-day life. It’s a talking therapy that focuses on understanding why you feel and respond the way you do, not just how to cope in the moment. The aim is deeper, lasting clarity: the kind that supports real change over time, not just short-term relief.
Understand the patterns beneath the problem

Sometimes we find ourselves repeating the same loops — overthinking, people-pleasing, pulling away, feeling “too much,” or getting stuck in relationships that don’t feel safe or satisfying. Psychodynamic Therapy explores the roots of these patterns, often linking them to earlier experiences, unmet needs, and the ways you learned to protect yourself emotionally.

When those unconscious strategies are brought into awareness, they become something you can work with — rather than something that keeps happening to you.

Make sense of emotions that feel confusing or intense
You might notice emotions that feel overwhelming, contradictory, or hard to explain (for example: wanting closeness but also feeling threatened by it, or feeling anxious without a clear trigger). Psychodynamic Therapy creates space to explore those feelings gently and without judgement, so they start to feel more understandable and manageable.
With time, many people experience more emotional steadiness, self-trust, and relief from inner conflict.
Explore relationship patterns, including in the therapy itself
Because so much of our stress and healing happens in relationships, this approach pays close attention to how you relate to others: attachment, boundaries, trust, conflict, and the roles you slip into automatically. Therapy can also highlight what happens between us in sessions — not to analyse you, but to understand your relational template in a safe, supportive space.

This can be especially powerful if you struggle with feeling “too much,” not enough, rejected, unseen, or responsible for everyone else’s emotions.

Create lasting change, not just coping strategies
Psychodynamic work isn’t about quick fixes — it’s about meaningful insight that leads to new choices. As you understand your internal world more clearly, you often begin to

-
feel less driven by anxiety, shame, or self-criticism
-
respond rather than react in relationships
-
recognise your needs and communicate them more confidently
-
loosen old defences that once helped, but now hold you back
-
build a stronger, kinder sense of self

What sessions feel like
Sessions are a calm, confidential space to talk openly. You don’t need to have the “right words” or a clear story. We’ll go at your pace, noticing what feels important, what’s repeating, and what’s asking for attention underneath the surface.
Psychodynamic Therapy can be short-term or longer-term, depending on what you’re working through and what feels supportive for you.

Psychodynamic Therapy may be helpful if you…

-
feel stuck in repeating emotional or relationship patterns
-
struggle with low self-worth, shame, or a harsh inner critic
-
experience anxiety or depression that feels hard to explain
-
find it difficult to trust, feel safe, or feel close to others
-
carry the impact of childhood experiences or relational trauma
-
want deeper understanding, not just symptom management
