One in four of us will experience mental health difficulties at some point. If you’re dealing with anxiety, low mood, stress, or the impact of trauma, your Vitality  health insurance may help you access timely, evidence-based therapy without a long wait.

​

Many Vitality policies include outpatient mental health cover, which can support therapy for concerns such as Stress, anxiety disorders, depression, low mood, PTSD, trauma and more. Typically, your GP provides a referral, Bupa authorises treatment, and we’ll guide you through the next steps and take care of the rest.

Does Vitality cover therapy?

​

In many cases, yes. If your Vitality plan includes mental health cover, talking therapy is typically funded under your outpatient benefits once it’s authorised. Vitality’s core mental health cover commonly includes up to 8 talking therapy sessions per plan year (plan-dependent). 

​

Aligned Mindset Therapy can support Vitality members where treatment is authorised and you’re able to choose us from Vitality’s approved provider options. Vitality also allows online or face-to-face talking therapy (as authorised). 

​

Because cover varies, the quickest way to confirm what you have available is via Vitality’s Care Hub / member account or by contacting Vitality to check your benefits and eligibility. 

 

What types of therapy does Vitality cover?

​

This depends on your plan and what Vitality authorises, but commonly covered talking therapies include:

​

•    CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)

•    Counselling

(plus other therapy formats where clinically appropriate and authorised). 

 

Do I need a GP referral to start therapy with Vitality?

​

Often, no - Vitality states you can self-refer for talking therapies, or you can use a GP referral. 

​

If you do need GP support, Vitality GP is included with many plans and can help with quick access and onward referral routes (where appropriate). 

 

How does Vitality therapy work with Aligned Mindset Therapy?

1.    Contact Vitality (via Care Hub or the usual claims route)

2.    Vitality confirms your cover and issues an authorisation number

3.    Book your first session (online or in-person)

4.    Attend sessions (typically weekly or as agreed)

5.    We invoice Vitality in line with your authorisation (or advise if any member contribution applies)

 

Vitality explains that once approved you’ll receive an authorisation number, which you give to the clinician/provider so they can bill Vitality. 

 

Is Vitality quicker than the NHS for therapy?

​

It can be. NHS waiting times vary widely by area and service, while private healthcare can often offer faster access depending on clinician availability and your policy.

​

At Aligned Mindset Therapy, we’ll let you know our current availability and do our best to offer appointments promptly.

 

What mental health concerns can Vitality cover therapy for?

​

Vitality’s approval depends on your policy terms, clinical assessment, and the authorisation process. Many people use private therapy for concerns such as:

​

•    Anxiety (including panic, social anxiety, health anxiety)

•    Depression / low mood

•    PTSD / trauma

•    Stress and burnout

•    Grief and bereavement

•    Adjustment difficulties (life changes, transitions)

•    Sleep problems (where linked to mental health)

​

Can I see a therapist online with Vitality?

​

Yes - Vitality’s talking therapy benefit can include online or face-to-face sessions (as authorised). 

​

With Aligned Mindset Therapy you can choose:

•    Online video sessions

•    In-person sessions (London clinics)

•    Hybrid (a mix of both)

 

Will I have to pay anything upfront?

​

Often, no - once you have an authorisation number, providers commonly invoice Vitality in line with what’s been approved.

 

You may need to pay if:

•    Your plan has an excess, or

•    You reach your annual outpatient / therapy limit

​

If anything might be payable, we’ll flag it early so there are no surprises.

 

How do I get Vitality pre-authorisation?

​

Pre-authorisation is usually straightforward:

1.    Start your claim via Vitality Care Hub (or by phone)

2.    Vitality checks your cover and the most appropriate support route

3.    You receive an authorisation number

4.    Share that with us and we’ll take it from there

​

Vitality highlights Care Hub as the central place to manage claims and benefits, and explains that approved claims come with an authorisation number for billing.
