Waking up several Times in the night drenched with sweat?

Does that internal volcano erupt countless times during the day and night ?

Rivers of sweat running down your body ?

Do you feel like you have lost control of yourself and your body ?

Do you find it hard to sleep at night?

Do you find that you have mood swings?

Menopause refers to that time in every woman’s life when her periods stop and her ovaries lose their reproductive function. This usually occurs between the ages of 45 and 55. In the UK the average age is 51. In a few exceptional cases women may become menopausal in their 30s, or even younger. This is then known as a premature menopause, or premature ovarian insufficiency.

Although menopause is a perfectly natural and normal transition that all women experience, the affect it can have on the life of some can be quite incapacitating. If you are going through the menopause right now you will no doubt be familiar with some or all of the symptoms.

There are a total of 31 symptoms of Menopause. Here are just a few

  • Hot flushes

  • Night sweats

  • Chills

  • Joint pains

  • Mood swings

  • Disturbed sleep

  • Increased anxiety and stress

  • Brian Fog

  • Memory Problems

  • Weight Gain

  • Migraines and Headaches

  • Fatigue

  • Cravings

  • Poor Sleep resulting in Insomnia

The effect  that these can have on family life, relationships, work and social life are not trivial. Although symptoms vary in their severity between women, it is likely that you’ll be experiencing one or more of the above, which may be causing you some concern. If symptoms are causing you any concerns then it is important that you see your GP and seek professional medical help.

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) also known as menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) and hormone therapy (HT). It is the use of hormone therapy (tablets, patches or cream) to replace the oestrogen that your ovaries no longer make during and after menopause. It can help relieve some of the symptoms of menopause. is the most widely used treatment for menopausal symptoms. As its name suggests, it is simply a way of replacing the hormone oestrogen that is lost during the menopause. However, there are concerns that have been raised that HRT may  increase the risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and even heart disease and for this reason there has been much debate in recent years over HRT’s long-term safety.

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT)/ Menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) may not be safe for some women. You should discuss your risks with your doctor if you have

  • A history of heart disease or risk factors, such as high cholesterol

  • A family or personal history of breast cancer

  • High levels of triglycerides, a type of fat in your blood

  • A family history of gallbladder disease

  • Liver disease

  • A history of stroke or blood clots

Hypnotherapy, however, as a complementary therapy, can work alongside medical interventions to help improve your individual symptoms. Hypnotherapy has been shown to be one of the most powerful and effective alternative therapies available to help manage the symptoms of the menopause. Research in the U.S and recent trials in the U.K have shown that hypnotherapy can help up to 80% of women manage and control these symptoms. You can read more about the trails here.
