Bupa Therapist Harrow

If you have Bupa private health insurance, your policy may cover some or all of the cost of therapy.
I am a Bupa-recognised therapist offering face-to-face sessions in Harrow, North West London, as well as online therapy across the UK.
Depending on your individual policy and Bupa authorisation, you may be able to access therapy for difficulties such as anxiety, low mood, stress, trauma, confidence, grief and other emotional or psychological concerns.
Using Your Bupa Health Insurance for Therapy
If you would like to use your Bupa health insurance, the first step is to contact Bupa and check the mental-health cover included in your policy.
Many Bupa policies include Mental Health Direct Access, which means you may be able to speak to Bupa directly about your concerns without needing to see your GP first.
Bupa will check your cover, explain the treatment pathway available to you and, where appropriate, provide authorisation for therapy. Cover and referral requirements vary between policies, so it is important to confirm your individual entitlement directly with Bupa before starting treatment.
How Does the Process Work?
1. Contact Bupa
Contact Bupa through your My Bupa account, the My Bupa app, webchat or by telephone. Let them know that you would like support for your mental health and would like to check whether therapy is covered by your policy.
2. Check Your Cover
Bupa will confirm whether your policy includes mental-health treatment and advise whether you can use Direct Access or require another form of referral.
3. Obtain Authorisation
If therapy is approved, Bupa will usually provide you with an authorisation or claim number and confirm the treatment or number of sessions covered.
4. Contact Aligned Mindset Therapy
Once you have your Bupa authorisation, please provide:
-
your Bupa membership number
-
your authorisation or claim number
-
the number of sessions authorised, where applicable
-
details of any excess or contribution
We can then arrange your first appointment.

Your therapy will be tailored to your individual needs and treatment goals.
Therapy Approaches
I use an integrative approach, drawing on different evidence-informed therapies according to your needs and the treatment that has been authorised.
These may include
Counselling and Psychotherapy
Counselling and psychotherapy provide a supportive space to explore difficult emotions, experiences and patterns while developing greater understanding and new ways of coping.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT explores the relationship between thoughts, emotions, physical sensations and behaviour. It can help identify patterns that may be keeping difficulties going and develop practical ways of responding differently.
Compassion-Focused Therapy
Compassion-Focused Therapy can be particularly helpful where difficulties involve self-criticism, shame, perfectionism or low self-esteem.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
ACT can help you develop greater flexibility in responding to difficult thoughts and emotions while moving towards the things that matter to you.
Other Integrative Approaches
Where appropriate, therapy may also draw on psychodynamic approaches, behavioural strategies and exposure-based work.
The approach used will always be discussed with you and adapted to your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Bupa cover therapy?
Many Bupa health-insurance policies include mental-health treatment, but the level of cover varies.
Your policy may have limits on the type of treatment, number of sessions or amount Bupa will pay, so you should confirm your individual benefits directly with Bupa.
Do I need a GP referral?
Not necessarily.
Many Bupa policies include Mental Health Direct Access, which means you may be able to contact Bupa directly about mental-health concerns without first obtaining a GP referral.
Bupa will tell you which pathway applies to your policy.
Do I need authorisation before my first appointment?
If you intend to claim the cost of therapy through Bupa, you should normally obtain confirmation of your cover and any required authorisation before beginning therapy.
Do you invoice Bupa directly?
Where Bupa has appropriately authorised treatment and direct billing applies, eligible session fees can usually be submitted directly to Bupa.
Will I need to pay an excess?
Some Bupa policies include an excess or personal contribution.
Bupa can confirm whether this applies to you and how much you are responsible for paying.
How many sessions will Bupa authorise?
This varies according to your policy and clinical needs.
Bupa may authorise a set number of sessions initially and review the need for further treatment if appropriate.
Can I choose online or face-to-face therapy?
Both may be available, depending on your Bupa policy, authorisation and clinical suitability.
Already Have Bupa Authorisation?
If Bupa has already authorised your therapy, please get in touch with your membership and authorisation details and we can discuss appointment availability.
If you have not yet contacted Bupa, I recommend checking your mental-health benefits with them first.
