Menopause refers to that time in every woman’s life when her periods stop and her ovaries lose their reproductive function. This usually occurs between the ages of 45 and 55. In the UK the average age is 51. In a few exceptional cases women may become menopausal in their 30s, or even younger. This is then known as a premature menopause, or premature ovarian insufficiency. 

There are a total of 34 symptoms of Peri-Menopause. Here are just a few

  • Irregular Periods

  • Brain Fog

  • Hot Flushes

  • Fatigue

  • Cravings

  • Low sex Drive

  • Heart Palpitations ( GP should be consulted if this happens)

  • Painful Breasts 

  • Poor Sleep resulting in Insomnia

  • Urine leakage and urgency

  • Mood Swings

  • Viginal Dryness

Hormone Replacement Therapy

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is the most widely used treatment for menopausal symptoms. As its name suggests, it is simply a way of replacing the hormone oestrogen that is lost during the menopause.

However there are concerns that have been raised that HRT may  increase the risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and even heart disease and for this reason there has been much debate in recent years over HRT’s long-term safety.
